Leave us a little info, and we shall be intouch
Cashew is the common name of a tropical evergreen tree Anacardium occidentale, in the family Anacardiaceae. It is native to South America and is the source of the cashew nut and the cashew apple, an accessory fruit.
The tree can grow as tall as 14 meters, but the dwarf cultivars, growing up to 6 meters, proves more profitable, with earlier maturity and greater yields. The cashew nut is edible and is eaten on its own as a snack, used in recipes, or processed into cashew cheese or cashew butter.
Peanuts (Arachis hypogea) are also known in other parts of the world as groundnuts, earthnuts, ground beans, and monkey nuts. Peanuts are the second most widely grown legume in Uganda, after beans and are grown all over the country but more so in the north (Page et al.,2002). It is one of the export crops of Uganda contributing only 0.09% of the total export earnings (FAO, 1997).
Peanuts are easily marketed and contribute to food security at household level thus they are dual purpose providing food and cash income. At KAFECO-INT, we grow and process ground nuts into paste for sauce and butter
